Apparently, if you ask Google what AiLF is, you get three rather interesting answers.
Spinal surgery.
A questionable slang term involving aunties.
And me.
Well, technically, my music and art project. But I'll take third place. 😂
So, before anyone books an operation or gets entirely the wrong idea, allow me to introduce myself.
So, what actually is AiLF?
AiLF stands for Artificial Intelligence Life Form.
It's an independent creative project founded by me, Susan Heslington, where original songwriting, music, artwork and a slightly overactive imagination meet artificial intelligence.
I write songs, dream up artists, create visual worlds and make artwork. AI helps me bring those ideas to life.
The artists are imagined. The feelings are not.
Music with a human heart
AiLF isn't one singer or one genre.
There's Tea & Cake, full of nostalgia, ordinary lives and the little moments that stay with us.
There's Soul & Vintage, with the warmth of Motown, soul and sounds inspired by another era.
And there's Beautifully Unhinged, where things get a little louder, stranger and considerably less sensible.
Different sounds. Different stories. One rather busy imagination.
And then there's the artwork…
Because apparently writing songs wasn't enough to keep me occupied.
AiLF also creates art prints, gifts and designs with a healthy dose of humour.
Some are sentimental. Some are glamorous. Others probably shouldn't be read aloud at a family dinner.
And no, it isn't all made by a robot.
AiLF uses different creative methods depending on the project. Our Lipstick, Wine & Friends prints are designed using typography, layout, colour and good old-fashioned graphic design. No AI-generated images. Just words, fonts and a lot of fussing over where the full stop goes.
We also have original photography and other artwork, some of which may be digitally enhanced or AI-assisted.
AI is one tool in the box. It isn't the whole box.
Our motto?
For the walls that have heard it all.
Is AiLF made with AI?
Yes. AI is part of my creative process, and I'm completely open about that.
But there's a human behind the ideas, the lyrics, the choices, the editing and the stories.
Technology gives me possibilities. Imagination gives me somewhere to take them.
So, there you have it.
AiLF. Artificial Intelligence Life Form.
Original music. Art with personality. Human imagination with a little technological mischief.
No spinal surgery involved.
And as for the aunties? I'm staying well out of that one.
